About the Symposium
All the beauty in the universe is a manifestation of Allah's unique and unparalleled art. Allah, the most beautiful of creators, has asked man, whom He created in the most beautiful form (ahsen-i calendar), to maintain order and harmony on earth in accordance with the purpose of his creation. In this respect, man should look at the universe with the eyes of an artist and try to discover the aesthetic messages in it. Works of art offer us the opportunity to see, hear, perceive and think in order to comprehend the communication between us and Allah in a different and richer way.
The work of art, in all its forms and levels, is a language and in the final analysis, it expects to be understood. In this context, Islamic art also attaches importance to being the language of truth. The field of consciousness of Islamic aesthetic perception has a breadth and depth that brings together all kinds of cognition, comprehension and invention experiences with visual, auditory and space in the integrity of fact-value by centering on existence and truth. In this respect, instead of abstracting aesthetic pleasure from meaning and reducing it to the visual or auditory, it is necessary to carry it to a new language waiting to be understood in all its dimensions. Because traditional Islamic art focuses on meaning and content, not on display, exposure and forms.
Islamic arts are the structures and products of the nations that have adopted Islam throughout history with their will and abilities. These works reflect the diversity, richness and colorfulness of different geographies in the historical process. In order to further develop this acquis, it is necessary to increase social sensitivity and awareness.
For more than fourteen centuries, Islamic civilization has been the most powerful source of art and aesthetic perception of Islamic societies. The idea that shapes Islamic art, which has brought a whole new dimension to humanity with its rare works in architecture and other branches of art, is basically the Islamic faith. Islamic art is not just a catalog of products. It is also a way of perceiving and seeing. Therefore, it is capable of opening horizons for us in understanding religion.
It is of vital importance to transfer the rich artistic and aesthetic accumulation of Islamic civilization to future generations and to shape new generations in this direction. Because the preservation of our existence and carrying it into the future is closely related to the work to develop the artistic talents and abilities of our children.
With the International Symposium on Art and Aesthetics in Islam, the importance of art and aesthetics, which have an indispensable value for human and social life, such as science and morality, and which shape, beautify and add color to the world we live in, will be emphasized once again and will contribute to increasing social sensitivity and awareness on this issue.
In line with this goal, one of the primary objectives of the symposium is to contribute to Turkey and international scientific literature by giving place to the papers produced by qualified studies within the framework of the topics determined. The symposium is open to all participants who want to present papers related to the topics and is organized with a multidisciplinary understanding and purpose. Thus, it is aimed to contribute to the scientific discussions, exchange of ideas, interdisciplinary cooperation of valuable academicians, researchers and artists who carry out academic studies in various fields, and to create a basis for new academic research areas.
Within this framework, other objectives of the symposium can be listed as follows:
1- To determine the effects of Islamic art and aesthetics on faith and morality through its nature and originality
2- To interpret the philosophical background of Islamic art
3- To evaluate aesthetics in Islamic art by expressing it in a multifaceted way
4- To evaluate the existing accumulation in the fields of architecture, traditional arts, literature and music in the Islamic world and to address the new problems and discourses emerging in carrying this accumulation to tomorrow
5-To express the problems of Islamic architecture and to express proposals and searches for solutions
6-To determine inventory studies in every field of Islamic art and to use this information in new researches
7-Discuss how modern and contemporary arts are interpreted by Muslims
8-Discussing the future of Islamic art and discussing new searches within the framework of current problems and searches
